My approach to teaching Mathematics

UNDERSTAND : At JumpStart Math, I believe that true mathematical learning goes beyond memorizing formulas and procedures. My approach emphasizes conceptual understanding, logical reasoning, and problem-solving, helping students understand not only how to solve a problem, but why a solution works.

THINK : Through thoughtful questioning and guided discovery, students are encouraged to explain their reasoning, make connections, and develop strategies for approaching unfamiliar problems. I emphasize clear, organized mathematical communication and regularly encourage students to ask, "Does my answer make sense?"

CONFIDENCE : My goal is to develop confident, independent mathematical thinkers who have the skills and resilience to approach new challenges with the belief that they can figure it out.

Small-group instruction gives students opportunities to share ideas, explain their thinking, ask questions, and learn from one another. It creates a supportive environment where students can build both mathematical understanding and confidence.

I encourage students to show their thinking in a logical manner, communicate their reasoning, and develop good mathematical habits. One question I want students to ask themselves is: “Does my answer make sense?”
